THE SEASONS OF THE YEAR. EQUINOXES AND SOLSTICES.
A/ Twice a year the solar rays fall perpendicular to the Equator:
22ne-23rd September. The northern hemisphere gets less sunlight (Autumn Equinox) and the southern hemisphere gets more (Spring Equinox).
20th-21st March. The northern hemisphere gets more sunlight (Spring Equinox) and the southern hemisphere gets less. (Autumn Equinox)
B/ Twice a year the solar rays fall perpendicular to the Tropics:
21st June. The northern hemisphere gets full sunlight. (Summer solstice).
The southern hemisphere gets very little sunlight. (Winter solstice).
21st December. The northern hemisphere gets very little sunlight. (Winter solstice). The southern hemisphere gets full sunlight (Summer solstice).
*Aphelion: The longest distance between the Earth and the sun. (4th June)
*Periphelion: The shortest distance between the Earth and the sun. (3rd January).
