Chariatides.

Erecteion. Athens.
Their name means "people from the city of Caria, in Laconia. This name is said to come from the time this city was an allied of the Persians during the war. Their inhabitants were killed by the other Greeks and their wives became slaves and were condemned to bear the "heaviest burdens" forever (The burden of the temple).
